“ZAMBIA MUST BENEFIT FROM ITS MINERALS”

Minister of Mines Richard Musukwa says there is need for the country to benefit from its mineral resources.
Mr. Musukwa observes that Cobalt prices on the London Metal Exchange have increased in the last few months due to high demand for the commodity.
He has advised the mines to take advantage of the good prices by increasing exports.
Mr. Musukwa was contributing to debate in Parliament in support of the 2019 estimates of expenditure to the Ministry of Mines.
The price of Cobalt on the London Metal Exchange is the highest at 55,000 United States dollars per tonne while that of Copper is trading at 6,188 United States dollars per tonne.
Mr. Musukwa told Parliament that the increase in Mineral Royalty as proposed in the 2019 national budget is because of the continued low revenue contribution to Government by the mining industry.
