Zambia is ready for African Minister’s Conference in charge of civil registration, Kampyongo says 

MINISTER of Home Affairs, Hon Stephen Kampyongo says Zambia is ready to host the 5th Conference of African Ministers responsible for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics that opens on Monday.
Speaking at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa today, Hon. Kampyongo said Zambia will use the opportunity to showcase fundamental reforms the country has embarked on to improve and decentralise the integrity, registration and issuance of national documents.
He said the Conference has attracted high-level dignitaries such as the United Nations High Commissioner for the UN Refugees Agency, His Excellency Mr. Filippo Grandi and the African Union(AU) Deputy Chairperson, His Excellency, Mr. Quartey Thomas Kwesi.
He said the dignitaries will join over 40 African Ministers who have confirmed participation.
He said the Conference will open on Monday beginning with the special technical committee to finalize the agenda for Ministers.
He said Zambia was proud that it was establishing and sought to manage an integrated national information system regarding all national documents such as; birth, death, marriages, drivers’, passports, NRC and electoral registration of information.
He said the program will link information collecting and generating centres in the public and private sectors to Lusaka.
He said the program will also be decentralized and the information system would be utilized for decision-making, planning and research at the institutional and national levels in both the public and private sectors.
Mr. Kampyongo as Minister of Home Affairs is expected to take up the chairmanship of the Committee of African Ministers responsible for Civil Registration for the next two years.
