Zambia Daily Mail Reporter, her hubby and their child die in car crash, Police say
FIVE people have died on the spot while two others have sustained injuries in an accident which occurred yesterday at Vuba area along Kabwe Kapiri-Mposhi road.
In a statement to Mwebantu, Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the accident which involved four motor vehicles happened at 21:00 hours.
“The first motor vehicle was driven by an unknown driver (who is on the ran) a Freightliner truck and trailer registration number ACK 3777/ACP 9064T with two passengers on board from Kapiri to Kabwe. The second motor vehicle was driven by Sylvester Zulu of Muchinga Police Division a Toyota Land Cruiser ZP 2163B from Kapiri to Kabwe with six passengers on board,” Mr. Hamoonga stated.
“The third motor vehicle was driven by Jacob Simuchimba aged 29 year old of Nakonde a Volvo Truck registration number BCA 428 and trailer registration BCA 4148T from Kabwe to Kapiri with four passengers and the fourth Motor vehicle was driven by Ido Chisenga aged 30 years of Kapiri Mposhi a Toyota Corolla registration number ABH 6314 from Kabwe to Kapiri with four passengers.”
Mr. Hamoonga stated that the accident occurred when the driver of the freightliner truck reversed negligently hence the collision with the Toyota Land cruiser which was coming from behind.
He stated that the third motor vehicle a Volvo truck over turned to the extreme right as the driver was avoiding to hit the first motor vehicle and that the fourth motor vehicle Corolla registration number ABH 6314 passed under the trailer of the first motor (Freightliner truck).
Mr. Hamoonga stated that the driver of the second motor vehicle (Toyota land cruiser), Sylvester Zulu died on the spot.
“Others who died are: Mr. Sikota Situmbeko of Muchinga Police Division, Ms. Ireen Chanda Mukuka of unknown house number, Mrs. Mwaninda Nyirenda Zulu (Daily Mail Reporter) of Muchinga Police Camp and a juvenile Dalitso Zulu aged 12 year old. The other two passenger who sustained serious injuries are Margaret Mukuka Chanda aged 53 of Arakan barracks who sustained a fractured left leg and a juvenile aged 8 of Muchinga Police Camp who sustained both fractured legs and left arm both admitted in Kabwe General Hospital,” Mr. Hamoonga stated.
“The deceased are lying in Kabwe General Hospital awaiting postmortem. Passengers of the first motor vehicle and fourth motor vehicle escaped unhurt. The first motor vehicle had its trailer wheels damaged, the second motor vehicle was extensively damaged and left side damaged and undisclosed amount of groceries damaged while the fourth motor vehicle had it roof damaged. We would like to appeal to members of the public that may have information of the where about of the driver of the Freightliner truck and trailer registration number ACK 3777/ACP 9064T to report to the nearest Police station.”
