Zambia will tomorrow, Tuesday, 25th May 2021 join the rest of the African Continent to commemorate Africa Freedom Day.

Cabinet has advised members of the general public that the commemorations will be held at a further reduced scale under strict observance of the Public Health guidelines on Covid-19.

President Edgar Lungu will lead the commemorations at the national level in Lusaka.

This will be marked by the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Freedom Statute and later the presentation of Honors and Awards to deserving recipients at State House.

At the Freedom Statute, the President will be accompanied by the Secretary General of the Patriotic Front Party, invited Permanent Secretaries, Service Chiefs, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and invited Senior Government Officials.

The President will thereafter, as per tradition, bestow Honors and Awards on deserving Zambians at the Investiture Ceremony to be held at State House.

The function at State House will be attended by only 55 invited guests, in observance of the Covid-19 Guidelines on public gatherings.

At the Provincial level, the celebrations will be led by Provincial Permanent Secretaries who will lay wreaths at the designated sites.

Members of the public have been advised to follow the Live proceedings on ZNBC Television and Radio Stations,

And in view of the Public Holiday tomorrow, Government has urged all public and private institutions that offer essential services to ensure that measures are put in place to avoid any disruption in the operations.

Members of the general public and the business community have been further guided that while tomorrow is a gazette public holiday, Wednesday, 25th May 2021 is a normal working day and should be observed as such.

The public has further been urged not to lose sight of the guidelines by the Ministry of Health to prevent the further spread of Covid-19, even as the country commemorates Africa Freedom Day.

This is contained in a Press Statement issued this evening by Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Simon Miti.
