The Zambezi River Authority Council of Ministers has approved an $81million 2020 budget, with the main expenditure being channeled towards the rehabilitation of the Kariba dam and preparatory activities for the development of the Batoka Gorge Hydro Electricity Scheme.This follows the Annual Zambezi River Authority Council of Ministers meeting held in Zimbabwe today.The Council of Minister has appreciated the impact of the hydrological situation at Kariba on the revenues of the Zambezi Authority mainly from water sales to the utilities.The ministers have also noted the progress on the development of the Batoka Gorge Hydro -Electric Scheme following the award of the contract to the consortium of Power Construction Corporation of China and General Electric.The 2020 chairperson for the Zambezi River Authority Council of Ministers was handed over to Zimbabwe.This is contained in a statement released to ZNBC News in LUSAKA today and jointly Signed by Finance Minister Bwalya Ng’andu, his energy counterpart Matthew Nkhuwa who is also outgoing chairperson.Zimbabwe Minister of Finance and Economic Development Mthuli Ncube and his energy and power development counterpart Fortune Chasi also signed the statement.
