ZAF Ponders Introducing Air Ambulance at UTH

The Zambia Air Force says it will introduce an air ambulance to be stationed at the University Teaching Hospital to try and deal with emergency situations in the country.

Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General David Muma said they will wait for guidance from the Ministry of Health to provide the space for the helicopter and also crew members.

During the handover ceremony of an Ambulance to ZAF by Heath Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya, General Muma said the air ambulance would be at the ministry of health’s disposal throughout the year.

“The helicopter will be stationed permanently at either UTH or Levy Mwanawasa and will be able to operate 24 hours daily. We will be requesting your technical team to provide space for the construction of an early part so that pilots and engineers on duty can always have somewhere to stay while waiting for emergencies,” he said.

General Muma also pledged improved support with flying doctors services.

” We further want to see if we will be able to provide air services outside the country and we intend to undertake this project before December 2019″, he said.

And Dr Chilufya who has thanked the commander for the great initiatives has pledged in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

“As a Ministry we are very delighted to hear the new areas of partnership that we are going to explore in 2019 and I will be going to respond to that ,” Dr Chilufya said.
