ZAF fighting bush fires

By Mark Ziligone

The Zambia Air Force -ZAF-has successfully contained bush fires that erupted in various parts of the country.

This follows a directive from President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA to assist in containing fires.

ZAF Commander Lieutenant General OSCAR NYONI says efforts by the ZAF Fire Department in tackling the widespread fires across the nation were heightened following the Presidential directive.

Lt. Gen. NYONI says this  due to the collaborative approach between the Air Force and the Zambia Police Service in enforcing laws against individuals engaging in illegal bush burning activities.

The ZAF Commander was speaking when he checked on ZAF officers conducting the fire fighting operation in Nangoma today.

Lt. Gen. NYONI also said the Air Force has engaged various communities in carrying out sensitizations on the dangers of burning bushes.

He said the vice can lead to insufficient grazing land for livestock if not addressed.

Lt. Gen NYONI added that he is pleased that the officers have managed to address the situation in affected areas.
