Youths advised to desist from using social media to spread falsehoods

Minister of transport and communications Brian Mushimba has advised the youth to avoid using social media platforms to spread wrong information that can dent the image of the country.

In a speech read on his behalf by permanent secretary in the ministry of transport and communications Misheck Lungu at the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) ICT’s talents development summit and Huaweii ICT competition ceremony in Lusaka, Mr Mushimba has noted with concern that some youths are using social media platforms for the wrong reasons instead of productive purposes.

He says the youths should use social media platforms for the right purposes such as business and learning.

Mr Mushimba has further urged the youts to aim to be entrepreneurs and not to be totally dependent on working for other people.

Speaking at the same event Chinese ambassador to Zambia Li Jie says Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is one of the key areas of economic and trade population between China and Zambia.

He says the event is another sign of the friendly relationship between China and Zambia and the enormous potential of bilateral economic trade cooperation.

And Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Martine Mutonga says in line with achieving a smart Zambia and in partnership with Huaweii, government hopes to achieve the establishment of a platform for teachers and students to exchange knowledge thus promote ICT technology among others.
