YALI Calls For Quick Finalization Of Pieces Of Legislation With Direct Impact On Next Year`S General Elections

By Leah Ngoma

The Young African Leaders Initiative-YALI- says pieces of legislation that have a direct bearing on next year`s general elections must be quickly finalized in the next session of parliament as the house resumes sitting next month.

YALI president Andrew Nthewewe has cited the public order bill of 2015 which seeks to repeal and replace the public order act of 1955 and the electoral process bill of 2019 as some of the pieces of legislation that points to how the general elections will be handled next year but can only be finalized after bill 10 is dealt with.

Mr Nthewewe says there is need therefore for the constitutional amendment bill number 10 of 2019 to be concluded so that the process of operationalizing the amended constitution begins before the 2020 general elections.

He is hopeful that members of parliament will be able to put the interest of Zambians first and ensure that bill passes.
