World Bank Africa, Finland nod President Lungu’s election

THE World Bank Group for the African Region has assured President Lungu of the Group’s unwavering commitment to supporting Zambia’s economic, social and environmental development programmes.

In a congratulatory message to President Lungu, Africa Region Bank Vice-President Makhtar Diop expressed confidence that under the President’s leadership, Zambia will remain on a path towards sustainable economic and shared growth.

Mr Diop stated that the World Bank Group values its partnership with Zambia which dates back to 1955, before the country gained independence in 1964.

The World Bank Group Vice-President acknowledged that the partnership between Zambia and the World Bank has since continued to grow.
‘’Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on your re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia,’’ Mr. Diop said.

Meanwhile, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has also extended His congratulations to President Lungu and wished Him every success in carrying out His mandate as President of the Republic of Zambia.

“On the occasion of your election and inauguration as the President of the Republic of Zambia, I wish to extend to you my sincere congratulations on my behalf and on behalf of the Republic of Finland,” President Niinistö said.

And in her congratulatory message to the, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Executive Director Michel Sidibe has said she looks forward to working with the President and the Zambian Government to implement the ambitious and bold Political Declaration on Ending AIDS as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ms Sidibe expressed gratitude to Ambassador Mwaba Kasese-Bota and members of staff of the Permanent Mission of Zambia in New York for their leadership role in co-facilitating the negotiation and adoption of the Political Declaration on Ending AIDS at the June United Nations General Assembly High-level meeting.

“I have the honour to refer to your recent re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia and wish to congratulate you and the Patriotic Front Party on this occasion,” Ms Sidibe said.
