Workers Compensation Fund Control Board plan ahead

…As government urges the board to address the thematic areas on occupational health awareness, occupational injury coverage and operational excellence in the revised strategic plan, key areas that are fundamental to the transformation of the board into an efficient and effective organization in Zambia.

Lusaka (12-04-2023 – Zambia24) – The Workers Compensation Fund Control Board has officially relaunched a revised vision of the 21-25 strategic plan that seek to turn around the operations of the institution and meet stakeholders expectations.
Board Chairperson Emmanuel Mbambiko told journalists during the launch that the 2021-2025 strategic plan was revised to met the aspiration of New Dawn Administration of wanting to deliver social security services to the Zambian workers.
Mbambiko saud the revised strategic plan is anchored on the 8th National Development Plan number 2 which seeks to reduce vulnerability and inequality through the coordination of social protection reforms and expansion of social security coverage.
And speaking when he officiated the launch Minister of Labour and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba pledged government continues support to the board in its endeavor to implement policies that seek to turn around the operations of the Workers Compensation Fund Control Board to meet the aspirations of the people.


She said the stakeholder’s expectations of the board to meet the demand of this fast-changing business environment are very high.
She said the re – launch of the 2021 – 2025 strategic plan has far reaching implications in balancing interests of stakeholders with respect to the following; affordability of the scheme by employers, adequacy and efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of services.
She said those will help to address the thematic areas on occupational health awareness, occupational injury coverage and operational excellence in the revised strategic plan, key areas that are fundamental to the transformation of the board into an efficient and effective organization in Zambia.
Tambatamba said the government remains optimistic that the revised strategic plan will deliver expected results over the remaining period in the following priority areas, universal coverage and enhanced injury benefits, safety and health at work, high quality social security services.
She said that the international labour organization considers international labour organization, ILO “social protection, or social security, as a human right and is defined as the set of policies and programs designed to reduce and prevent poverty and vulnerability throughout the life cycle.
She urged the board to concentrate on the implementation of higher order goals to improve the performance of the institution through service excellence, adequacy of benefits and general administrative efficiencies,” she stated.
She said that the plan is a blue print for guiding operations and should be used to rally cooperation and support from all social security institutions, to begin with and all the other state and non-state actors.
Meanwhile Workers Compensation Fund Control Board acting Commissioner General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Siampwili disclosed that the dedication and passion demonstrated in the review process of the strategic plan has greatly inspired management to look beyond the confines of the thematic areas in search of long term solutions to the current challenges facing the institution.
Siampwili not only thanked government and other stakeholders for the support rendered to the board in the review process of the strategic plan but also urged them to continue with the same spirit as they embark on the implementation of the revised 2021 to 2025 strategic plan.
