On Saturday, Sunset Stadium hosted the first ever Women Football Charity Shield which saw the champions of Lusaka, Green Buffaloes taking on the Champions of the copperbelt Indeni Roses.
Buffaloes emerged winners 5-4 on post match penalties after a the two giants of Zambian Women football played out to a one all draw in regulation time.
The match was full of exciting plays and entertainment. A few players stood out for the ZamFoot crew who were in attendance at Sunset Stadium.
One of stand out players was Grace Zulu from Indeni. Grace has moved straight from Bauleni to swimming with the big fish at Indeni and earned the captains armband.
With her solid performance in Saturday’s crunchy encounter it’s not surprising as to why she has been handed the responsibility ahead of National team captain Misozi ‘CR7’ Zulu.
Misozi Zulu missed the 2018 Women Africa Cup of Nations held in Ghana due to injury but it seems she has recovered quite well.
She made some very good runs and was a constant threat on the wings keeping the Buffaloes defence on their toes.
Anita Mulenga, The Copper Queens defender had a good game on the day making good clearances and last ditch tackles to keep out the Indeni strikeforce.
Mary Mwakapila has become a house hold name following her stellar performance at the 2018 Women Africa Cup of Nations. The fan favourite however failed to really live up to expectations on the day.
She showed flashes of her brilliance but was far from her best. It might be that the pressure got to her or she was just having a bad but whatever the case she was not the same player.
All in all both teams played very well and have really improved looking at how they used to play years back. These are motivated teams who know what they are playing for and are favourites to retain their titles.
