Wife Killed Over Nshima

A SEVENTY-EIGHT-YEAROLD man of Luano district has allegedly battered his 65-yearold wife to death over nshima. The dead woman, identified as Esther Phiri, sustained a fractured skull and broken ribs after her husband, Sylvester Mbulo, beat her up using a stick on Monday.
Central Province commissioner of police Joel Njase said in an interview yesterday that Ms Phiri died around 22:00 hours. Mr Njase said when Mbulo returned home from a drinking spree on the fateful night, he demanded for nshima from his wife before he started beating her.
“But his wife told him that he did not leave any money to buy food. He then started beating his wife using a stick. His wife later died of injuries

A post-mortem conducted on Thursday showed the cause of death as a fractured skull and broken ribs. The suspect is in custody at Masansa Police Post.
He said Mbulo has been charged with murder.
And in Lundazi, a 27-year-old man of Kalobya Village of Chief Tembwe died when the motorbike he was riding hit into another motorbike.
The dead man has been identified as Thomas Phiri, who was going to Lundazi hospital.
And in a related incident. a seven-year-old boy of Muchinshi died on the spot in an accident on the Chingola-Solwezi road.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said this in a statement yesterday.
Ms Katongo said the victim’s bike collided with the motorbike when he failed to keep his lane.
In the Solwezi incident, the boy was hit after the driver of a Nissan hit the pedestrian who was standing off the road due to over-speeding.
Ms Katongo said the body of the boy is in Muchinshi Hospital mortuary while the driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
