Why Kasumba Didn’t Celebrate His First League Goal

Your first ever goal in a league is usually an exciting moment but Zesco United striker Umaru Kasumba showed no such emotion as he scored his first league goal in Zambia.

There were huge expectations placed on Kasumba after scoring in the Caf Champions League and there was growing anticipation that his first league goal would come against Napsa Stars in WEEK 5.

The Goal did arrive in the 17th minute as Kasumba placed the ball into the back of Napsa Stars net to score the first goal of the game as Napsa also conceded their first goal of the season but it was the Ugandan striker’s lack of reaction which surprised a number of fans.

One of the fans who was left surprised was Kenyan blogger and sports journalist Bonface Osano who is a close friend to Kasumba and contacted him after the match and discovered the real reason behind his lack of emotion on scoring his first goal.

Kasumba told Osano that moments before kickoff he was informed that his sister Sarah Mutesi had passed on in Uganda, Kampala and he was distraught.

The 25 year old striker would then inform the team of the development and after a lot of encouragement from his teammates he gathered his strength and took to the field to play and scored his first ever league goal.

After scoring he got down on his knees as was immediately surrounded by his teammates who celebrated his goal as they consoled him.

Zesco United eventually won 3-2 to go in second place in the league as Kasumba marked his first goal in the Zambian Super League as our thoughts and prayers are with him in this trying moment
