The ABSA Cup formerly known as the Barclays Cup will be in full swing this afternoon at Nkoloma stadium, this year’s edition will only have four contestants in Zesco United, Green Eagles, Buildcon and Zanaco
The only domestic cup available promises a lot even before the ball is kicked, it won’t fail to offer the entertainment and the much-wanted excitement. Here are the things the ABSA Cup promises to offer to the fans who will travel to Nkoloma stadium;
GUARANTEED HIGH QUALITY OF MATCHES
Without a single doubt, we are in for a very high-quality performance from the teams taking part in the Cup games. Zanaco and Green Eagles will kick off the proceedings.
Green Eagles have been performing so excellent since last year, they qualified for their first ever Continental football and they have continued on that impressive path this season.
Zanaco finished the season with the best scoring record, the Bankers scored goals at free will. One of the highlights of the season was that 4-1 win over league champions Zesco United.
The Zanaco defense though has been a let down throughout the season. The Kawale Boys play their football from the back into the flanks, it will interesting to watch a very offensive team playing against a team which plays direct football.
Later during the day, there will be a Kopala derby, Zesco United will be up against Buildcon. Zesco United are a seasoned team who can upset any team, they do not play eye-catching the football but they surely know how to grind a win while Buildcon is fast growing to prominence and they are here to prove.
THE ELECTRIC ATMOSPHERE
Surely this will be the best time to be in the stadium, supporters from the Copperbelt, South, Lusaka and the neutral supporters from all over the country clustered in one place.
It is a feeling everyone needs to experience, the Chanting, the music and the drum beating alone will be enough to entertain everyone.
THE CHANCE TO SEE COSAFA HEROES
All the four clubs were well represented at the COSAFA Cup and It will be the only time we have to see and welcome our COSAFA heroes, Green Eagles have three names on their books, the coach who guided the boys to the first COSAFA triumph since 2013, goalkeeper Sebastian Mwange who was a revelation at the tournament and the man who scored the winning goal in the final Tapson Kaseba.
Zanaco has Lawrence Chungu, winger Ernest Mbewe, and striker Chitiya Mususu while Buildcon was represented by defensive kingpin Isaac Shamujompa. Zesco United had left back Mwila Phiri, central back Clement Mwape and striker Lazarus Kambole.
THE HUGE PRIZE MONIES
It’s all about who wants it the most, the four teams will only play two games and have chance to win half a million, the biggest prize money a club has ever walked away within the history of the Zambian cup competition.
Is that not a cool deal?? The winner of the cup will walk away with K500, 000 then the runners up will walk away with K250, 000. There will be also individual prizes coach of the tournament will walk away with K18000. Player will also be playing for K18000 as the best player at the tournament will be as well recognized
