THE Women for Change (WfC) has pledged to support women vying for elective office in the August general elections.
The organisation has pledged to provide them with necessary campaign materials.
WfC executive director Lumba Siyanga said in an interview yesterday that her orgainsaton was doing everything possible to ensure women candidates were supported.
Ms Siyanga said the WfC was working hand-in-hand with other non-governmental organisations in the country to find ways of supporting the adopted women.
“We are about to start a programme that will look at supporting women nominated for this year’s elections and we have made progress,” she said.
WfC’s desire was also aimed at supporting the female candidates by providing them with the necessary security.
She appealed to the women to get involved in the referendum voting as it would accord them an opportunity to speak through the vote.
Ms Siyanga, however, urged women not to be intimidated by politicians but ensure that they exercised their rights by participating in matters of national affair.
She said women’s voices should be recognised in matters of national development as contained in the Bill of Rights, although the WfC was not in support of the referendum being held simultaneously with the general elections.
