We will not disqualify anyone on account of forgery – ECZ
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has dashed the hopes of those wishing to see certain candidates disqualified from the presidential race on account of using forged documents when filing in nominations by saying it will not disqualify any one whose nomination papers it has declared valid.
Responding to a question during a press briefing held in Lusaka today, ECZ spokesperson Crispin Akufuna stated that at this stage, the commission cannot invalidate a candidate’s nomination papers as it has no powers to do so.
He advised those that have evidence that a particular candidate forged their credentials to prove their case in the courts of law.
Lately, there has been a Scheme being advanced by the ruling PF through its member Ngande Mwananjiti to push for the disqualification of UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema because his running mate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba allegedly used fake educational qualifications from Zimbabwe when filling in his nomination papers.
