On Sunday afternoon the Choma Independence stadium witnessed the first-ever Zambian premier League Eagles derby as two not so brotherly brothers battled for glory.

Bornface Sunzu scored an own goal in the 13th minute through a deflected header from Young eagles free-kick to give Tonka tusike an early lead before Shadreck Mulungwe restored parity from a close range in the 24 minutes.

Speaking to the ZAMFOOT crew after the game, Tonka tusike coach Kelvin Mwaanga said his side played better football than Tonka Tweende despite the draw.

“Looking at the position we are on the table It’s a bad result, we aimed to win the game and I think we played a good game, we played better than eagles despite what we did to draw but that’s how football is,” he said.

“Our team, we always do better but where we have a challenge is in final third, the problem which we have is the mental aspect of my boys because a lot of them we came together from National league up to the premier league so some of them it might be due to the first time in the premier league, it’s very difficult for them but it’s our duty mental them because if we don’t mind them who will?” He added.

Mwaanga concluded by hinting out on getting 2 or 3 players with premier league experience to survive relegation.

“The bigger part which is coming now we want to fuse in with at least 2 or 3 players that can help us to survive.”

With the draw, today Young Eagles have 3 draws in the past five games whilst Green Eagles has 4 draws in the past 5 games.
