WASH Zambia set aside K1.5 million to fight COVID-19

….. Kays say over 50 public and private places across Lusaka and 5 000 homes using the WASH Zambia products will be sanitized.

Lusaka (13-01-2021) WASH Zambia will spend over K1.5 million to sanitize over 50 public and private  places and 5 000 homes using the WASH products in Lusaka.
WASH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jonathan Kays told journalists during during launch “WASH away COVID-19 awareness campaigns” in Lusaka that WASH will ensure that the people that access WASH services are protected are protected all the time.
Kays said the over K1.5 million budget will  be spent on disinfecting public and private spaces where the majority people in the city of Lusaka frequent.
Kays invited the stakeholders to take keen interest in the health of citizens and  join hands with WASH to fight the spread of COVID-19 across the city and beyond.
And speaking when he officiated the launch Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa commended WASH for taking an initiative for “WASH COVID-19 Away” Campaign which WASH Zambia want to use to contain the spread of  COVID-19 in the city.
Sampa told journalists that the Campaign that was launched in partnership with Wash Zambia was necessitated by the continued rise in Covid 19 cases in the country.
He said it is important now more than ever to find ways of keeping the people safe and the initiative taken by WASH Zambia is highly welcome.
Sampa said by disinfecting these public places, WASH Zambia is helping not only their clients but all citizens in Lusaka to stay safe and Covid-19 free.
Sampa is of the view that the new Covid 19 Variant has proven to be more deadly,” he said.
He said many front-line and essential workers are now put at risk of contracting the virus daily, hence the need for the general public to take Covid 19 prevention measures more seriously.
“If we can all cooperate and follow guidelines we will be better protected from the virus without having to undergo a complete lockdown,” he said.
Sampa said he believes in action and that is the reason why he was commending WASH Zambia for the contribution towards curbing the spread of COVID-19 virus.
He said the additional free disinfecting services that will be offered in the homes of their clients as a way of further contributing towards their safety will go a long way toward ensuring safety of the people.
Sampa urged the people of Lusaka to ensure that they take action against the spread of COVID-19 themselves.

He said the council will also ensure that COVID-19 guidelines are observed  to save the neighbours.
He said the president does not want to lock the country because doing so will prevent people from enjoying the business activities.
He urged the people to corporate with the authorities by observing the guidelines which the government has put in place to protect the citizens.
He said his priority is also to collect all the garbage in Lusaka and help plan the city to end the floods.
He regretted that the city does not have proper drainages system hence the floods which has been witnessed destroying homes as seen in Mutendere east.
He said the people that have been allocated in places earmarked for drainage will be paid off to leave the place to facilitate the building of the drainage.
Meanwhile Kays  disclosed that WASH has upgraded its app and has improved the services to save the people even better.
He said those that want to access the services are at liberty to down the app and get connected to all the WASH Zambia services.
