WARMA authorities insist that it is OK to drink the sky blue water in Lusaka’s Garden park areas

WATER Resources Management Authority (WARMA) says investigations in the recent suspected case of water contamination in Lusaka’s Garden park areas show that there is high probability of dyes in the water.
Company Public Relations Officer Joshua Kapila in a statement to the media said after an on-sight survey of the area, the specific zone that was affected was isolated to establish the extent of the problem.
Kapila said investigations also revealed that the water from the boreholes was sky blue in colour, but had no smell.
“Furthermore, the Authority carried-out preliminary on-site tests and the results indicated that the sky-blue color in the water cleared upon the addition of Chlorine, which is a bleaching agent. The disappearance of the sky-blue color after addition of chlorine is an indication that there is high probability of dyes in the water,” Kapila said.
But Kapila has assured the general public that key parameters of the said water are in compliance with the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) standards and within allowable limit for Drinking Water despite.
He further said that there is no indication of hazardous reports to human health from the area caused by the same water.
