W/Province set for tourism revamp-Sikumba

Macpherson Mukuka-Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA says Government is working at revamping the Tourism Sector in Western Province particularly in the Liuwa National Park.

Mr. SIKUMBA says Government wants to develop the Kabalo airstrip to facilitate for smooth air transportation of Tourists visiting the national park.

Speaking when he led a team of Ministers on a fact finding mission in the area, Mr. SIKUMBA said Government is considering engaging the private sector to help set up tourism related facilities in the national park.

And Kalabo District Commissioner MUSANGU NJAMBA called on Government to consider erecting a bridge between Kalabo and Liuwa National Park.

Mr. NJAMBA said despite the national park being one of the tourist destinations in the country, it’s potential remains untapped due to lack of development.

He said the area which harbours one of the biggest populations of the wildebeest has no better Infrastructure to boast about in as far as attracting tourists is concerned.

The District Commissioner said tourists are shunning visiting the area due to lack of facilities such as good road network and accommodation.
