The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- has postponed the date for the commencement of the Voter Registration exercise.

ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano says the exercise which was earlier scheduled to start tomorrow October 28 will take off on November 9 to December 12, 2020.

Mr. Nshindano has attributed the development to the extension of the mobile issuance of National Registration Cards.

He further says the ECZ has been prompted to postpone the commencement of the exercise so as NOT to disenfranchise Zambians.

Mr. Nshindano said this at a Press Briefing in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nshindano announced that 130,000 people have so far pre-registered as voters on the ECZ Online Platform.

He said the pre-voters’ registration exercise that commenced on September 21 will be concluded on November 20, 2020.

Mr. Nshindano however said the number of people who have pre-registered as voters is lower than envisaged.

He has encouraged Zambians not to shun the pre-registration exercise as it is instrumental in enabling would-be voters to hurriedly obtain voter cards when the actual voters registration exercise begins.
