Lusaka, Zambia24 (26-05-2024) – The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has conducted a series of operations, resulting in the seizure of non-compliant potable spirits and household electrical appliances from various locations in Lusaka.

The confiscated goods, valued at over K1 million, lacked essential information such as batch numbers and manufacturing dates, posing potential risks to public safety.

According to Onishias Maamba, Public Relations Officer (PRO) at ZCSA, the operation targeted suppliers operating without necessary permits, contravening sections 15 and 21 of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017.

“Samples of the confiscated items have been sent for further analysis to determine the appropriate course of action,” he said.

Notably, 58 pressing irons with non-compliant features were seized from Makeni Mall, highlighting the agency’s commitment to upholding standards across various product categories.

Maamba issued a stern warning to manufacturers, importers, and suppliers flouting regulations, emphasizing the risks such products pose to consumer health and safety.

ZCSA pledges to continue its enforcement efforts and public education campaigns nationwide, ensuring only compliant products reach consumers.

The agency plans to publish a list of registered entities authorized to supply products meeting compulsory standards, providing consumers with valuable guidance in making informed purchasing decisions.

Additionally, Maamba invited the public to visit the ZCSA booth at the upcoming 2024 Copperbelt, Agricultural, Mining, Industrial, Networking, and Enterprise (CAMINEX) show, scheduled from May 28 to 30 at the Kitwe showgrounds.

Under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities for Growth: Zambia’s Land Linked Position,” the CAMINEX Show serves as a platform for showcasing economic potential and fostering partnerships across various sectors.

ZCSA’s participation in the event underscores its role in facilitating economic growth by safeguarding consumer interests and environmental sustainability through stringent standards enforcement.

Established under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, ZCSA remains steadfast in its mandate to administer, maintain, and enforce compulsory standards, safeguarding public safety, consumer rights, and environmental integrity in Zambia.
