Vigilance key to protecting children over the festive season, Police IG Kakoma Kanganja says

THERE is a marked increase in the number of juvenile delinquency every festive season, Inspector General (IG) of police Kakoma Kanganja has said.
The Police IG said in a statement to Mwebantu yesterday said the most prevalent offences committed by juveniles include affray, assault, burglary, theft, drunk and incapable or disorderly and house breaking.
But the Police IG said a lot of counsel has already been given by various stakeholders on the need for parents and guardians to guide their children.
He said according to statistics, a total of 1,761 juvenile offenders were convicted for various offences in 2017 compared to 1,193 convicted in 2016 showing an increase of 569 juvenile offenders.
The Police IG said the statistics are extremely worrying but hoped to see a reduction going forward.
And the Police IG said the reduction in cases of child delinquency will only be attained when every member of society plays a role of guiding the young ones.
