Veep commits to child legislative measures

Ruth Chainda-Vice President, MUTALE NALUMANGO says government will implement administrative, policy and legislative measures that will eliminate violence against children.

Mrs. NALUMANGO says the measures will be aimed at protecting, promoting and upholding children’s rights.

She says all forms of violence against children should be addressed through providing a child friendly environment and policies that will enhance the development of all children in the country.

Mrs. NALUMANGO said this during the National Dialogue on Ending Violence Against Children in Lusaka today.

The Vice President said there is also need for the enhancement in the creation of institutions that support the wellbeing of children and also teach them on their rights.

She also said there is need to enforce the law on those that are perpetuating violence against Children.

And, Community Development and Social Services Minister DOREEN MWAMBA said there is need to continue putting in place measures that will strengthen the environment to protect all children in the country.

Ms. MWAMBA said this will be done through looking at the framework so that it can adequately address the children’s needs .

Speaking also during the national dialogue, UNICEF Country Representative NOALA SKINNER said the UN family is ready to support Government in protecting children against violence.

Ms SKINNER who was representing UN Resident Coordinator COUMBA MAR GADIO said there is need to invest in the wellbeing of children because it is an investment in the future.

And Save the Children Director Programmes and Quality ANNIE HOBAN praised Zambia for its efforts been made towards its commitment in ending violence against children.

Meanwhile, Various International Organisations have reaffirmed their commitment to working with Government in ending violence against children.
