US,Zambia Sign MoU To Enhance Wildlife Management

Ruth Chayinda-United States Charge d’ Affaires DAVID YOUNG has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Zambian government worth 9 million kwacha.

The MOU is for strengthening wildlife management in Zambia.

Mr. YOUNG says the US government is committed to strengthening wildlife diversity, sustainable natural resources management and rural economic development in Zambia.

He told ZNBC NEWS in Lusaka that the MOU outlines proactive steps that both countries will take to protect wildlife and strengthen wildlife management.

Mr. YOUNG further noted that building on the success of the MOU , that more than 800 million kwacha is planned over the next five years for new awards in biodiversity and forest conversation, including partnerships with private sector that will bring addit
onal investment in tourism and alternatives to charcoal.

He said through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the US Government has played a vital role in helping Zambia improve wildlife conservation and management .

Mr YOUNG noted that Zambia’s tourism sector is critical in enhancing economic development and job creation .
