USAID, NEW GOVT BOND

The United States Agency for International Development -USAID- and the incoming UPND Government have resolved to work together in bid to fight corruption and strengthen democratic values in the country.

This came to light after a USAID Administrator Samantha Power spoke and held a meeting with President elect Hakainde Hichilema.

Administrator Power explained that the meeting also discussed issues concerning press freedom and civil liberties among Zambians.

She said the meeting also discussed the critical role played by Zambian civil society during the peaceful election.

Administrator Power said the United States looks forward to partnering with President elect Hichilema’s incoming Government as it seeks to meet the Zambian people’s democratic and economic aspirations.

She reaffirmed USAID’s long-term support of the Zambian people across programming in health, education among other areas.

President Elect Hichilema noted that his hope is that, in a democratic backsliding globally, Zambia’s progress can serve as an example for other nations.
