The United States Government has committed US$250 million towards the Lobito Corridor covering Zambia, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC.

US Deputy Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy HELAINA MATZA says US President JOE BIDEN made the commitment at the G7 Leaders summit in Japan which was held on May 18 to 19th, 2023.

Ms. MATZA has also disclosed that President BIDEN further committed US$30-Billion dollars support to emerging economies around the world.

She was speaking when she called on Transport and Logistics Minister FRANK TAYALI at his office in Lusaka today.

And US Ambassador to Zambia MICHAEL GONZALES said the visit by Ms. MATZA is a follow up from the meeting that President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA had with Vice President KAMALA HARRIS when he visited the USA in March this year.

And Mr. TAYALI said that the Lobito corridor route will help Zambia to trade with all its neighbouring countries once the project is completed.

He pointed out that connectivity such as rail, water, air and road is key in the region to achieve economic development.
