UPND will remove 5% import duty on concentrates – HH

The opposition UPND says it will remove the 5% import duty on mineral concentrates as part of lowering the tax burden on businesses once it forms government.

UPND president Hakainde Hichilema says his party will also drop the Sales Tax and revert to the abolished Value Added Tax (VAT) at reduced rates.

Mr. Hichilema has told Q-News in a statement that the UPND government will further remove the withholding tax on rentals and other current costly taxes, licenses and levies.

He notes that this is in addition to lowering both the cost of living and of doing business by reducing the fuel pump prize and electricity tariffs.

The UPND president states that the benefits to the people of these measures include protecting the current few jobs and businesses while creating more jobs and business opportunities.

He says economic expansion and development leading to more jobs, business consolidation and growth are other benefits that will come as a result of the said measures.

The opposition leader claims that these measures will in turn lead to improved public revenue generation ability of the Country .

He has since urged the Zambian people to unite in support of the UPND and other citizens of goodwill in order take the Country out of what he has referred to as the PF inflicted damage and pain.
