UPND says sorry

The UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) in Southern Province and Livingstone in particular has apologized to its members and the general public for not educating and sensitizing them about the referendum.

And a UPND senior member Mutinta Muhila has advised members of the opposition political party to stop bickering saying that this the time when members needed one another.

Speaking during a public rally in Libuyu on Monday to drum up support for UPND’s parliamentary candidates; executive mayoral and councillor ahead of the August 11 general elections, Mr. Hamwende Kayumba who is also the leader of Freedom and Democracy Fighters Association (DFDA) of Zambia said the party did not know that PF government would bring the referendum side by side with the general election.

“We apologize to you the community of Livingstone and Southern province for not teaching you about the referendum. We did not know the PF government was going to impose the referendum on you,” he said.

“I call on the district chairman and his team to teach the people that this year’s election has five distinctive votes because we have to vote for presidency, parliamentary, executive mayor, councilor and the referendum,” Mr. Kayumba said,

He charged that the referendum has nothing to do with the vote for presidency or MP because it the submission of a law to the direct vote of the people where they say yes or no.

Mr. Kayumba said there is need to educate the people, after residents of Libuyu expressed ignorance about referendum when he asked them if they knew anything about it.

He also vented his anger on the public media describing it as traitors to the cause of Zambians and warned that those in charge of such institution will be kicked out on August 13 when the UPND take over power from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

At the same rally, UPND senior member Mutinta Muhila advised members of the opposition political party to stop bickering saying that this is the time when members needed one another.

“The whole country has endorsed Hakainde Hichilema…people of Zambia are behind the UPND and all provinces are gone, what about you here where he comes from?” he said.

“I appeal to you people to stop bickering. This is the time you need to be united and love each other even kiss each other. We want to win this election,” he said.

Meanwhile, UPND provincial secretary Winnerson Ng’uni has observed that it will be a disaster for the UPND to lose the Livingstone Central seat to the Patriotic Front.

“If the PF wins Livingstone central seat, it will be as well as they have won the entire province. It is very important to take part in this year’s election so that we can win all the seats in southern province,” he said.
