UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma says his party has increased the number of women participating in this year’s general elections to 28 candidates among them four mayors.
Mr Kakoma said this at a Press briefing at the party secretariat in Lusaka yesterday where he unveiled the list of the 156 aspiring candidates on the UPND ticket. Mr Kakoma said the party’s commitment to engage women in decision making positions they fielded in women Mayoral aspiring candidate,Dr. Maureen Mwanawasa for Lusaka,Ms Daphen Chabu for Ndola and Ms Rabecca Mukuka for Mufurila.
Mr Kakoma also stressed that his party was concerned by the escalating levels of violence among cadres and that he wondered why President Edgar Lungu was blaming his party for the violence when it’s them (PF) that is provoking their members.
” One of our members was shot by a well-known PF cadre in Northmead after our people were returning from filling in of nominations. Whose provoking who then… We let them file in peacefully but when its our turn they disrupt our peace” said Mr Kakoma.
