UPND OFFICIAL DEFECTS TO PF

By ZANIS:United Party for National Development -UPND- Lundazi district Information and Publicity Secretary Raphael Lungu has resigned from the party and joined the Patriotic Front -PF-.Speaking at a press briefing in Chipata, Mr. Lungu said he has no reason to remain in the opposition as the current government is working according to the people’s expectations. He said Lundazi has not been left out in the developmental agenda as it has seen unprecedented development evidenced by the construction of health centres among other projects.Mr. Lungu said the reduction in school fees by government is another reason why he has decided to defect as government has considered the poor people who couldn’t afford to pay high school fees.He said with such progressive programs being implemented by government, there is no need for him to continue remaining in the opposition.Mr. Lungu further said he has not been given any money to defect to the ruling party but because of the developmental programs that government is undertaking countrywide. And when receiving him, PF Eastern Province Chairperson Andrew Lubusha said the continued defections of members from the opposition to the ruling party is a sign that the party is growing in the province.Mr. Lubusha said people are now joining the ruling party because they can see that the promises which were made in 2016 are being fulfilled. He further said the PF under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu will remain a pro poor party by taking development to all parts of the country.Meanwhile when reached for a comment, UPND Provincial Spokesperson Victor Mbuzu said his party is not shaken by the defection of Mr. Lungu and has since wished him well in his future endeavour.
