UPND explains it’s MPs boycott to Parliament

The opposition United Party for National Development has justified has justified the decision by its Members of Parliament to boycott the official opening of Parliament by the President Edgar Lungu last week.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has told QFM News says the UPND does not recognize President Edgar Lungu as duly elected hence the boycott of his parliamentary address by its Members of Parliament.

Mr. Kakoma says UPND members of parliament will only be attending parliamentary sittings when necessary.

All the 58 UPND Members of Parliament stayed away from the ceremonial opening of Parliament by President Lungu last week on Friday.

But the Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) is disappointed with UPND Members of Parliament who boycott the ceremonial opening of parliament by President Edgar Lungu.

ZANASU outgoing vice President Prince Ndoyi says time for politicking is over and that there is no need to hold the Zambian people hostage.

He says it is completely unreasonable for the UPND MPs to abscond attending to their parliamentary duties when they promised to represent and serve the people in their respective constituencies.

Mr. Ndoyi says much as the MPs may have their own reasons for their action; there is no justification for their boycott.

He has reminded Members of Parliament that they do not represent the interests of the party, but serve the interests of the Zambians in their respective constituencies.
