UPND CADRES FINED

 

Twenty-six UPND supporters have been convicted and fined 18 Kwacha each after pleading guilty to a charge of idle and disorderly conduct in the Kitwe Magistrate Court, while four juveniles have been placed on bail pending a social welfare report.

The thirty appeared before Magistrates Kampinda Chipamu and Malota Phiri for presentation of written facts and sentencing.

In this matter, the thirty are charged with one count of idle and disorderly conduct contrary to section 178 subsection F Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

In fining the twelve, Magistrate Malota Phiri urged the youths never to engage in such behavior by ensuring that they abide by the law.

He stated that as the country heads to elections, there is need for all to respect the police and maintain law and order.

Magistrate Phiri said everything that happened could have been avoided had the UPND supporters adhered to guidance by the Police.

He has since fined the twelve 18 kwacha each or face a one-month simple imprisonment for those that may default.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Phiri has given bail to three juveniles pending a social welfare report and they are expected to appear in court on 24th March 2021.

And Magistrate Kampinda Chipamu has fined 18 Kwacha each to the other
fourteen or face one-month simple imprisonment for those that may default.

She has also given a 300 Kwacha Cash bail to one juvenile and will appear in Court on 26th March 2021 for the presentation of a report from the social welfare.
