United Party for National Development -UPND- Alliance has praised President Edgar Lungu for conceding defeat adding that he has set an example for other political parties.

UPND National Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa says President Lungu’s action has left an enduring legacy of statesmanship of his leadership.

Mr. Mweetwa says this also serves as a challenge to the UPND Alliance administration to uphold the democratic tenants.

He also noted that the meeting which was later held between the Outgoing President Lungu and President-elect Hakainde Hichilema in the company of other local and international delegates speaks to the country unity that all Zambians should be proud of.

Mr Mweetwa thanked President Lungu for facilitating a peaceful general election stating that many people made negative predications.

Speaking during a press briefing today, Mr. Mweetwa said the deployment of soldiers was a good move because peace was maintained.

And, Mr. Mweetwa has advised the law enforcement agencies to take charge of the security situation in the country.

He said those that want to commit crime in the name of being affiliated to the UPND Alliance should be arrested.

Mr. Mweetwa who regretted the recent incidences of violence and looting in some parts of the country saying those behind it are doing so on their own and the law will take its course.

He said the alliance will not undertake a political witch hunt against anyone but allow the investigative wings to do their job.

Mr. Mweetwa also re-emphasised the need for public places such as bus stations and markets to operate as such and not be infiltrated by political parties.

He said the local authorities should proactively take charge of public places so that they can raise revenue to enhance their services.
