UNZA Don Wins American Research Award

A University of Zambia (UNZA) lecturer and researcher Peter Cheuka has been awarded the prestigious American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene award (ASTMH) by the Bill Clinton foundation for his research in anti-malaria drugs.Dr. Cheuka who is specialized in medicinal Chemistry and drug discovery in the school of natural sciences is scheduled to travel for the annual American Society of ASTMH meeting in the USA where he will present his finding on the anti-malaria drug.He has published several research papers in peer-reviewed journals and has also presented his research findings at local and international conferences as well as seminars.And UNZA Vice-Chancellor, Luke Mumba who congratulated Dr Cheuka , said the research on anti-malaria drug has the potential to replace the once effective malaria treatment options that have been rendered ineffective.Professor Mumba said UNZA is pleased with Dr Cheuka ‘s commitment in the fight against malaria which affects Zambia and most countries in the tropical region.This is contained in a statement availed to ZNBC news in Lusaka by UNZA spokesperson, Brenda Bukowa.
