Unemployment is country’s biggest challenge – Dr. MUSOKOTWANE

By Masauso Mkwayaya

Government has disclosed that about seven-million people are actively looking for employment making the situation the biggest challenge the country is facing.

Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE says statistics follow a survey that was done last year to ascertain the biggest development challenge facing Zambia.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE adds that low income levels even among people in employment have been identified as the second biggest challenge in the country.

The Minister says this is coupled by the increased cost of living.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said this in Lusaka today at a Public Symposium on the 2023 National Budget.

He said the proposed 2023 National Budget is an instrument that is attempting to directly address the identified challenges and other aspirations as enshrined in the 8th National Development Plan -8NDP.

The Finance Minister said growing the economy, is the only way that Government will address the many challenges in the country.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE however said this will only be achieved if everyone participates in the country’s development agenda by engaging in productive activities.
