UNEMPLOYMENT IMPACTING ON SCHOOL CHILDREN, SIAVONGA MP

By OLIVER SAMBOKO
UNEMPLOYMENT opportunities are negatively affecting many parents resulting in their children failing to go to school, Siavonga Member of Parliament, Darius Mulunda has observed.
Mr Mulunda further observed that because of lack of employment opportunities in the area, many parents were unable to send their children to school.
He was speaking after touring a community school in Kamimbi village, that was constructed by Yalelo Fish Farm and its cooperating partners.
Mr Mulunda said construction of the school would go a long way in mitigating the illiteracy levels in Kamimbi and surrounding areas.
He also who inspected some other projects under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Mpango and Nabutezi area and called on other companies in the district to emulate what Yalelo was doing to improve the education sector in the area in which they operate.  ”As you may be aware, Siavonga has a shaky economic base because of being in the valley where farming is nearly impossible so most  people are unemployed and too poor to afford to send their children to school,”
He said he will soon meet other investors in the area to encourage them and see how best he can work with them to improve the wellbeing of the people in the areas they operate.
Mr. Mulunda is visiting all parts of his constituency to learn and appreciate the challenges the people are facing.
