The United Nations says it is holding discussions with government to find ways of responding to the drought in a coordinated way.
Visiting United Nations Assistant Secretary General AHUNNA EZIAKONWA says the impact of climate change needs concerted efforts.
Ms. EZIAKONWA says she is holding meetings with government officials to find a way of how the United Nations can help Zambia in responding to the drought.
Ms. EZIAKONWA, who is also United Nations Development Programme Regional Director for Africa, says Zambia is an investor’s dream place as it is peaceful, stable and safe for investments.
She said this when she paid a courtesy call on President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA at State House today.
And President HICHILEMA said climate change has affected the country negatively and that there is need for mitigation measures which will help provide food security for citizens.
President HICHILEMA also revealed that government has declared 2024 as the year for economic expansion to create jobs for the youths, promote sustainable development and help those who are vulnerable.
He added that Zambia has been a peaceful country since independence and has changed seven Presidents without any conflict.
