UFEZ Donates K40,000 in Chairs
…Donation Aims to Boost Ministry of Labor and Social Security’s Efficiency

Lusaka, Zambia24 – (17-09-2024) – The United Federation of Employers in Zambia (UFEZ) has contributed office chairs worth K40,000 to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. This includes 17 chairs, featuring an executive chair for the Labor Commissioner’s office.
UFEZ President Humphrey Monde announced that the donation, which began in April 2024 in preparation for Labor Day, seeks to address budget constraints amid current economic difficulties.
Monde stated, “Our goal is to alleviate the Ministry’s financial strain and support its essential work during these challenging times.”
He highlighted UFEZ’s dedication to strengthening the ministry’s capabilities and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders.
“The labor market is vital to our economy. It’s crucial for all of us to back initiatives that reinforce this sector,” Monde said.
He also called for increased budgetary support for the Ministry and encouraged other stakeholders to engage in labor market discussions.
Additionally, UFEZ has committed to sponsoring part of the upcoming Tripartite Consultative Labor Council meetings to further support labor development in Zambia.
Zechariah Luhanga, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed gratitude for the donation.
“This contribution will greatly improve our ability to serve the public more effectively,” Luhanga said.
He noted that the donation would enhance operational efficiency and support ongoing efforts to address labor market challenges.
Luhanga also highlighted the Ministry’s initiatives, such as allocating 30% of its budget to assist drought-affected individuals and investing in office furniture and equipment for field stations.
“This donation will be crucial in developing a new labor management system to streamline data tracking and inspections,” he remarked.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding its reach and improving labor market alignment, acknowledging the support from various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the media.
The donation is expected to significantly enhance the Ministry’s operational effectiveness and oversight of labor-related issues.
