Twenty one Zambians awarded scholarships to study in UK

The British government has awarded scholarships to 21 Zambians to study in the United Kingdom under the Chevening scholarship.

Speaking at the send off ceremony of the scholars, British High Commissioner to Zambia Fergus Cochrane-Dyet said this is part of the overall package of development cooperation with Zambia.

He says the British government sends over 40 students to the United Kingdom for post graduate studies every year.

Mr. Cochrane-Dyet explains that the purpose of the scholarship is to help Zambians acquire knowledge and skills that will help them develop the country when they return hopefully in leadership positions.

He has encouraged the scholars to get to know the United Kingdom’s culture while they study, but most importantly bring back knowledge and skills that will help develop Zambia.

Speaking at the same ceremony, Chevening Executive member Bradford Machila reminded the scholars not to forget their purpose of traveling to the United Kingdom.

Mr Machila encouraged the scholars to work hard and come back with their degrees as it would be a loss of resources and time if they had to fail.

And one of the beneficiaries of the scholarship Oscar Mwiinde thanked the British government for the opportunity and urged his fellow scholars to make use of the opportunity given to them.
