A 28 years old Zambian has been stoned to death by a group of enraged taxi and minibus drivers in South Africaís† North Western provinceís biggest city, Klerksdorp, recently renamed to Matlosana.
Rabson Zulu, holder of passport number† 528427 is believed to have been first stabbed with a knife before he met his fate in the company of other four foreign nationals.
According to the information made available to the Zambian mission in Pretoria, Mr. Zulu was murdered over the weekend in a case of alleged mistaken identity.
Mr. Zulu is said to have been at a tuck shop located in Pinasdorp area where he had gone to buy washing powder when the mob of over 30 taxi and minibus drivers attacked him.
It is alleged that this enraged mob, assisted by locals, wanted to carry out a revenge attack on an identified foreign national of West African origin for allegedly killing one of the taxi drivers.
But after realizing that they had killed an innocent person, the mob fled the scene and no arrests †have been made so far.
Mr. Zuluís remains were deposited at Tsepong government mortuary awaiting repatriation to Zambia.
His death comes barely few weeks after another Zambian, Kenneth Sikopo was shot dead in cold blood in Germiston city in the East Rand region of Gauteng, South Africa.
And Zambiaís High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba has expressed shock at the death of Mr. Zulu.
Mr. Mwamba says the mission is saddened that an innocent life has been lost in bizarre circumstances.
He has since called on the Police to carry out thorough investigations to ensure that Zuluís murderers face justice.
This is according to a statement made available to QTV News by first secretary for press and public relations at the Zambian mission in South Africa Naomi Nyawali.
