TRADITIONAL LEADERS IN MASAITI NOD DEVELOPMENT

Traditional Leaders in Masaiti District have praised government and area Member of Parliament Michael Katambo for building two new schools in the area.

The two schools, which have been built in  Kansefu and Mwansa Village, are set to open next month.

Lubanda Village Headman Henry Kangombe says the construction of the new schools is a testimony of  government’s desire to develop rural areas.

Mr Kangombe says since independence, children in his village have been walking over 20 kilometers to the nearest schools.

He says the long distances have been responsible for the high drop out rates in schools.

And Mwansa Village Headman Goodson Mwansa said   the construction of a new school in his village is one way of bringing development closer to his people.

He said because of the long distances pupils used to cover to reach nearby schools, parents were reluctant to allow their children to go to school at an early age.

Mr Mwansa disclosed that about 500 children in his village are not enrolled in schools because they cannot walk to Levy Patrick Mwanawasa Primary School which is 15 kilometers away.
