By Sharon Kunda

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says trade and investments will play a critical role in his administration’s sustained effort to revive the country’s economy.

Speaking when he welcomed UK Trade Envoy, LAWRENCE ROBERTSON, President HICHILEMA has said trade and investment remain the basis upon which his party the UPND ascended to power.

This was today in Lusaka at State House.

The Head of State has explained that his government is making efforts to deliver on its promises of job creation and improved living conditions.

And Mr ROBERTSON has said since leaving the European Union -EU-, the UK is seeking to retain trade ties across the world, including with many African states.

He says his government recognises the importance of trade for the prosperity it brings.

Mr LAWRENCE has explained that his scheduled future visits will look at many other areas of industry, like mining, knowing its importance to Zambia’s economy.

He has revealed that many UK companies have expressed interest to invest in Zambia’s various sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile, UK High Commissioner to Zambia, NICHOLAS WOOLEY has said the UK is still interested in working with Zambia, as it seeks to build better from the effects of COVID-19.

And UK Director of Trade and Mining, SALLY BEVINGTON says her government is aware of the importance of mining to Zambia’s economy.
