TIZ WELCOMES DISMISSAL OF 3 ACCOUNTANTS

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has welcomed the dismissal of three Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure accountants from the civil service saying the move shows that government is determined to ending theft by public servants.
TIZ Executive Director Wesley Chibamba says stern action should be taken against the three accountants so that it serves as a deterrent to would be offenders.
Mr. Chibamba told ZNBC news in an interview that the culprits must be prosecuted as the matter is a criminal offence.
Meanwhile, Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountant -ZICA- Corporate affairs officer Kings Siachika says he could not comment on the matter as the investigations are still under way.
Mr. Siachika said it is yet to be established if the three belong to the professional body.
Yesterday, Government through the Civil Service Commission dismissed the three and notified the Ministry of Finance.

And Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela says the dismissal of three officers from his ministry on allegation of theft of public funds is warning that government does not tolerate theft or dishonesty.
Mr. Chitotela says the PF government does not condone unethical behaviour.
He says that the action taken by the Ministry is in line with the promotion of national values and principals which are embedded in our constitution.
Mr. Chitotela said that he is aware that the allegations on the three officers were discovered a long time ago and the Ministry through the Permanent Secretary moved swiftly by suspending the three in August.
He said that the Ministry had further reported the three to the Drug Enforcement Commission. -DEC- to pave way for further investigations.
