TIZ Dismayed By Continued Harassment And Intimidation Of Whistle Blowers

By Logic Lukwanda

Transparency International Zambia-TIZ- is dismayed by the continuous intimidation and harassment of whistle blowers by government and the police.

Reacting to the summoning by police in Lusaka and Mansa, of Nsama Musonda Kearns, the whistle blower in the alleged missing of 80 black lechwes in the Bangweulu wetlands in Luapula province, TIZ Executive Director Wesley Chibamba says whistle blowers should be protected and not intimidated.

Mr Chibamba has since challenged the Ministry of Tourism and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to produce the ecological report and how much money has been paid for the 80 black lechwes.

Government in October disclosed after the story of the alleged missing of the 80 black lechwes in the Bangweulu wetlands that 50 of the 80 animals were translocated to a private game ranch in Chisamba and the other 30 at another private ranch in Southern Province to which an ecological report and the cost of the animals have not been availed for people to see.

But the TIZ Executive Director tells Phoenix news that whistle blowers like Nsama Kearns should not be afraid as they will be supported.

Police in Lusaka have summoned Nsama Musonda Kearns the whistle blower in the alleged missing of 80 black lechwes in the Bangweulu wetlands in Luapula Province and she is set to appear for questioning this morning at around 09hrs.
