TIZ commends Kanganja for suspending corrupt cops

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has commended Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja for suspending the four traffic police officers who had mounted a roadblock along Mungwi road where they were getting bribes from traffic offenders

TIZ Executive Director, Wesley Chibamba says the suspension of the named officers will act as a deterrent measure to other would be culprits.

Wesley ChibambaHe has also commended Lusaka Provincial Minister, Bowman Lusambo for demonstrating good leadership and exposing the illegal roadblock.

Mr. Chibamba says the minister has exposed what the Zambian people have been lamenting about.

He says TIZ has for a long time now been calling for a clampdown on illegal road blocks to curb corruption, but that this seemingly fell on deaf ears with the powers that be requesting for evidence.

Mr. Chibamba has told Q-news that Thursday’s incident validates the findings of the 2017 Zambia Bribe Payers’ Index (ZBPI) which ranked the Zambia Police Traffic section as the most corrupt.

He says government has been losing money because it goes into private hands instead of government coffers.
