Kitwe’s Wusakile township came to a standstill when it hosted the biggest match of the season on Saturday as record twelve time Super League Champions Nkana squared off against their cross town rivals Power Dynamos.

Watched by millions across the continent, the Kopala derby as the locals on the Copperbelt call it was fierce, explosive and nail biting especially for some who visited their favourite online betting site to place their bets on the match.

Two red cards, a ripped jersey and a player came off the bench without the knowledge of the officials summed up the drama that came with the biggest game in the country.

In case you missed the Zambian ‘El Classico’ below are the 10 talking points.

1. No Sate Sate and Chisamba

The landlord of Wusakile Ronald ‘Sate-Sate’ Kampamba is out injured while Chisamba Lungu didn’t even the make the bench as Beston Chambeshi continues to side line the AFCON winner.

Well like any big game the fans wait to watch their favourite players and Chisamba is one of their most loved players maybe due to his fancy style of play. The landlord or Kalubula as others call him is top on the list of the most loved players at Chilata.

2. Kelvin Mubanga Missed Spot Kick

Former Power Dynamos midfielder Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba saw his penalty saved by his former teammate Lawrence Mulenga.

‘Kechi’ who is usually clinical from the spot this time around took his spot kick abit too casual and Lawrence made easy work of it.

3. Both scorers were sent off

Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga put aba yellow in the lead in 15th minute and turned provider, eight minutes after the hour mark to set up Christian Epoupa Ntouba but that wasn’t it.

In what looked a rugby, both players were sent off as Power finished the match with 9 men.

4. Referee Derrick Kafuli

FIFA referee Derick Kafuli has come in for criticism after he failed to send off a single Nkana player in the melee which saw Ng’onga and Epouba red carded.

Ng’onga looked swollen below his right eye and had a torn shirt raising the question that who did that to him? and why where they not sent off as retaliation is a red card offense in football and he certainly did not do that to himself.

Some also felt the penalty given to Nkana was just too soft and should have not been a penalty.

5. Pa Chilata is Power 90’s second home.

Power Dynamos maintained their unbeaten run at Nkana Stadium stretching back as far as 2016.

This was Kelvin Kaindu’s third win in row and unbeaten in the last four visits to Wusakile making Power dynamos the favourites in Kitwe derby games played at their rivals backyard.

6. Kenyan striker Elvis Rupia plays for 5 minutes undetected

$50, 000 striker Elvis Rupia who promised to score more goals than Zambian Super League consistent striker and compatriot Jesse Jackson Were replaced Godfrey Ngwenya in the second half.

Elvis spent about 5 minutes on the pitch and was involved in a tackle before the fourth official signaled to referee Kafuli after detecting the anomaly that his substitution was not sanctioned by the officials.

Luckily the Kenyan continued and played out the reminder of the match.

7. Billy, Deco celebrate Aba Yellow win in Tshwane

Former Power Dynamos players, midfield ace Mukuka Mulenga and defender Billy Mutale could not hide their joy as they went to social media to show their affection for Dinamo.

It’s simply yellow blood. Mutale is on the books of Supersport United while Deco has been inactive for over 18 months.

8. #Chambeshimustgo

#Chambeshimustgo is trending on social media as the Kalampa faithfuls have grown frustrated by their coach Beston Chambeshi.

Within a fortnight, Nkana have suffered defeats to Zesco United and Power Dynamos all who are bitter rivals that fans don’t want to lose a game to andespecially within a short period of time.

9. Al Hilal Want to take notes from Power

Straight from derby bragging righgs, Power Dynamos FC will this afternoon play Sudanese club Al Hilal in a friendly match at Arthur Davies stadium, the Sudanese club are still camped in Zambia ahead of their CAF Confederations game against Zesco Utd.

Al Hilal were handed a 2-1 defeat last Wednesday by Nkana and would like to pick up even a point when they face Zesco United on the weekend.

10. No Changes on the top scorers chart

None of the top 10 scorers from week 3 found the back of the net which means the top goalscorers chart remains unchanged at the top.

The two scorers in the derby Alex Ng’onga and Christian Epoupa Ntouba scored thei first goal in the league this season and first ever goal in the Zambia Super league respectively.

Rodger Kola is still leading the pack with 5 goals.
