The only abattoir in North Western Province grounds to a halt

By Paul Shalala

Operations at the only abattoir in the North Western Province have ground to a halt due to erratic power supply.

A check by a ZNBC News crew at Mutanda Abattoir in Kalumbila District found the 15-tonne cold rooms empty without any beef or chicken.

Mutanda Abattoir Manager GENESIS PHIRI told ZNBC News that the abattoir has been suffering power cuts and it has been difficult to operate the cold rooms without a standby generator.

Mr. PHIRI said farmers have been advised not to supply their products until power supply stabilises.
