Teachers win pay rise

Government has awarded the education sector a 550 Kwacha Salary increment across the board.

All nine representatives of teacher unions have signed the 2024 Collective Agreement today, Tuesday 28, 2023.

Government was represented by Public Service Management Division –PSMD- Permanent Secretary MARGARET MIYOBA, Education Permanent Secretary in Charge of Administration NORINA MUNEKU and other senior Officials.

And speaking after signing the collective agreement in Lusaka, Basic Teachers Union of Zambia -BETUZ General Secretary HENRY SINKALA, who represented the teacher Unions said they have agreed to the increment.

Mr. SINKALA appealed to teachers to stay calm, as the unions continue to engage Government on sector specifics such as the upgrades, payment of double class allowance to senior teachers.

And Zambia National Union of Teachers-ZNUT- Public Relations Director GODWIN MASAKA said the increased allowances will go a long way and provide a financial cushion.
